If you haven't figured it out by now, we're named after an Adam Sandler movie. But not just any Adam Sandler movie... We're named after Mr. Deeds.

You know the one... Where Steve Buscemi has crazy eyes. John Turturro has a weird foot. And Winona Ryder is from a small town named Winchestertonfieldville.

But why Mr. Deeds? Well, the name came from a movie night gone sideways. Mr. Deeds was on TV, we're all laughing, and then someone said, "Wait… Deeds. That's actually kind of perfect." And it stuck. It's versatile enough for any business, but for an agency, it felt just right.

And it turns out, Sandler's version is a remake of a 1936 Frank Capra film, which makes us look a lot more cultured in retrospect.

 

In both, Longfellow Deeds is a small-town guy who inherits a massive fortune and lands in New York, where he is immediately surrounded by lawyers, socialites, and sophisticated know-it-alls who are trying to manipulate him and steal his fortune because they think he's a small town idiot.

But Deeds just keeps being himself. Unpretentious. Genuinely useful. Completely unbothered by the theater of it all. Everyone is so busy scheming that they never see him coming. In the end, he outsmarts all of them and even gives away his fortune.

We work in an industry that takes itself a little too seriously. The pitch deck. The "big idea". The case study. The award. The case study about the award. All of it — impressive to other agencies, meaningless to the people actually paying for it.

So we'd rather be Deeds. But just to be clear, we'd never give up a $40 billion inheritance.

That's just insane.
